Micronutrient and redox homeostasis contribute to Moringa oleifera-regulated drought tolerance in wheat

چکیده

Global food security is being severely affected by the rapid increase in population and drastic climate change. Drought stress most important limiting factor for sustainable production of several crops, including wheat. The gradual temperature rise reduced precipitations are likely to cause frequent onset droughts around world. Therefore, alleviation drought crop plants has become an essential requirement meet increasing demand. present study explored role foliar application Moringa leaf extract (MLE) conferring tolerance wheat during anthesis stage. A genotype Indo-Gangetic Plains (HI1544) was exposed spikes simultaneously sprayed with MLE 10 days. results showed treatment improve concentrations macro- (K, Ca) micronutrients (B, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, Si) flag-leaves under non-stressed conditions. Application also maintained flag-leaf nutritional contents stress. micro-nutrients, Zn co-factors enzymes stimulated antioxidant enzyme activities; eventually leading a significant reduction reactive oxygen species malondialdehyde accumulations Furthermore, played crucial osmotic adjustment plant growth Overall, provided insights into functional improving indicated potential commercialize as effective bio-stimulant agriculture drought-prone regions.

Drought Tolerance in Wheat

Drought is one of the most important phenomena which limit crops' production and yield. Crops demonstrate various morphological, physiological, biochemical, and molecular responses to tackle drought stress. Plants' vegetative and reproductive stages are intensively influenced by drought stress. Drought tolerance is a complicated trait which is controlled by polygenes and their expressions are i...

Redox regulated peroxisome homeostasis

Peroxisomes are ubiquitous organelles present in nearly all eukaryotic cells. Conserved functions of peroxisomes encompass beta-oxidation of fatty acids and scavenging of reactive oxygen species generated from diverse peroxisomal metabolic pathways. Peroxisome content, number, and size can change quickly in response to environmental and/or developmental cues. To achieve efficient peroxisome hom...

Drought Tolerance in Modern and Wild Wheat

The genus Triticum includes bread (Triticum aestivum) and durum wheat (Triticum durum) and constitutes a major source for human food consumption. Drought is currently the leading threat on world's food supply, limiting crop yield, and is complicated since drought tolerance is a quantitative trait with a complex phenotype affected by the plant's developmental stage. Drought tolerance is crucial ...

Genetic and genomic tools to improve drought tolerance in wheat.

Tolerance to drought is a quantitative trait, with a complex phenotype, often confounded by plant phenology. Breeding for drought tolerance is further complicated since several types of abiotic stress, such as high temperatures, high irradiance, and nutrient toxicities or deficiencies can challenge crop plants simultaneously. Although marker-assisted selection is now widely deployed in wheat, i...
